Doug is an artist from the south shore of Long Island. His first aspirations were to become an art teacher. His studies were soon interrupted with the war in Vietnam. “I thought this might become a time in my life where I might sketch things that I would never experience anywhere else in the world”. After two tours in Nam and hundreds of drawings and sketches, Doug returned to the world to become a political cartoonist for two newspapers in Nassau County. During his 17 year career with cartooning, Doug won several awards from the New York Press Association, and also become a judge at several of these annual award events.
Doug joined the Wet Paints Studio Group of Sayville in 1987. Here he continues to show his work and is an active member in the workshops given there. Doug has won several awards from this group’s numerous exhibits. Doug is also involved with a local theater group doing set designs and stage art. He has also taught in the continuing adult education programs in the Connetquot school district.
From murals to illustrations of two books, the pencil remains his favorite choice.“After all, with the speed of a pencil and its simplicity, the possibilities are endless”.
